Our Board of Directors are leaders, guiding the team and setting the direction of the business. If we had to label them, Nancy, Jane and Andrew lead the different functions, Richard builds the client relationships and Kate keeps us absolutely on top of our game. But really, they consistently work without labels and across functions, blending their skills to provide the best service possible.
They are also all practitioners; they come from a ‘doing’ world. This is unusual and it is a great thing; it means they understand their teams and the work they do. They would never ask someone to do something they don’t understand themselves.
I am one of the original Founders and Managing Director of Ashdown Phillips. My job is to lead the business in its relationships with clients, occupiers, customers and service providers. I have worked in the property industry for 35 years acting for investors and occupiers. Our team is brilliant when we work together bringing focus and expertise; when we share passion and enthusiasm for the job, and when we have a hunger for knowledge. One of the greatest pleasures is working with talented, enthusiastic people; I love to give great feedback and see them grow in confidence. For me, inspiration comes from both people and situations. Superb design inspires and talented people are a joy. Ultimately, my inspiration comes from the desire to improve and learn.
Being active and outdoors keeps me balanced. If I get chance to be on the water, then the batteries are definitely re-charged.
I am a Founding Director and Company Secretary, based at Head Office. I have been doing this job since May 2004. I also worked as a Surveyor from 2004 to 2011. I act as a link between all teams within the business, coordinate and encourage robust application of policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with best practice.
I’m inspired when I see the shared values amongst the Directors, matched with confidence in our ability to be individuals. I am motivated by our ability to care and support each team member, and by seeing them happy and trusting.
I am active outside work, making time for hobbies such as skiing/cycling/sailing/mountain walking. The mountains and the sea re-balance energy levels from the pressures of work.
Director/Head of Facilities Management
I was appointed as a Board Director in 2014 and head up the Facilities Management team. I joined Ashdown Phillips in 2011 as Centre Manager at Idlewells Shopping Centre.
Our business is an inspiration to me. It is a brilliant example of something created from a desire to deliver a great service, which has grown successfully by establishing a strong reputation. I believe first class service comes from knowing everything there is to know about your properties and your occupiers, working collaboratively with the team, and being a trusted advisor. I love the team ethos.
I make full use of time off; for me long weekends in Snowdonia and on the Isle of Skye can be just as enjoyable as holidays abroad.
I am a Director/Head of Surveying, based at Pippingford. Before being promoted into my current role I was Associate Director and prior to that I was a Senior Surveyor.
I specialise in managing offices, business parks, building relationships between the client, tenants and managing agents. My team prides itself on great communication, excellent problem solving and a diligent approach to everything.
I love the atmosphere, the people, our properties, the variety in every day and our clients. We are supported well which, combined with a disciplined approach, means I can achieve a good work/life balance. I’m inspired to ensure ours is the best business to deliver great service at all times.
Director/Head of Client Accounts
I am the Director with Head of Client Accounts responsibility. I started as Head of Client Accounts in 2010 and was promoted to Director in 2014.
Having worked in property for the last 29 years I have an excellent understanding of client financial reporting requirements with strong data management skills. The work that we do inspires me and I take pride in seeing how successful we are. My favourite part of the work is spending time with great people, and I love how Ashdown Phillips has a family feel.
To be brilliant I believe we must maintain three key standards: being reliable, proactive and personable.
I have been the Managing Director of an associated company since 2016. I’m normally based at our London office. My primary responsibility is to help increase and diversify our client base. Prior to joining Ashdown Phillips, I was an Equity Partner and Head of Management at Montagu Evans for 16 years.
The imbalance in my work-life experience in my previous role was at the forefront of my decision to move to Ashdown Phillips. Now I enjoy a different experience and emphasis.
At Ashdown Phillips, professionalism is paramount to everything we do; communication is crucial to effective management and we respect everyone’s contribution. I’m inspired by looking after our clients and building our relationships with them. Without clients, we have nothing.
